South Carolina man arrested for DUI and reckless homicide

Tragically, a South Carolina man was killed in a car accident on June 14. The pickup truck he was a passenger in somehow left the road and ended up in a ditch. At some point during the crash, the man was thrown from the vehicle when it flipped over. The driver of that vehicle was taken into custody after the accident and has been charged with DUI and reckless homicide.

The driver had sustained minor injuries in the accident and a backseat passenger was not injured. Later the same morning of the accident, the driver appeared before a judge with the bond court. His bail was set at $60,000. It was not mentioned whether the man was able post bail.

Preliminary reports fail to indicate what led police to believe the man was intoxicated and that this was more than just an unfortunate accident. If blood samples were taken, charges may have been levied prior to authorities obtaining conclusive proof that the man had indeed been drunk. Even if it turns out that the man had been drinking, that does not necessarily mean that he was drunk at the time of the accident.

Whether the man that was arrested in this tragic accident was driving that night may not be up for debate. What is less certain, however, is that he was intoxicated when the crash occurred. It will be up to the court to decide whether there is enough evidence to substantiate the supposition that the South Carolina man was criminally responsible for the death of the passenger and should, therefore, be convicted of DUI or reckless homicide.
