Everyday people in South Carolina, as well as the rest of the United States, are accused of sex crimes. Whether these offenses are verbal harassment or more physical violations does not matter in the public eye. Unfortunately, even if a defendant is proven innocent of said sex crimes, their reputation and often parts of their lives are hurt or thrown upside down. Mere accusations, whether true or not, can cause unimaginable turmoil in someone’s life, especially if children are involved in the accusation.
One such case is that of a 26-year-old Woodruff, South Carolina resident. The man is now behind bars at Escambia County Jail, after being arrested on Friday, July 5. A warrant for his arrest was reportedly first issued back on Jan. 30, and he was being searched for by the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office.
The 26-year-old man was charged with sex crimes involving a minor under the age of 11. More specific details concerning his arrest were not immediately made available. It is expected that he will soon be transferred from Escambia County Jail, where he is currently being held, to Edgefield County where he will face charges.
Fortunately, there is hope for people who have been charged with sex crimes or any crime at all. Though the public is often ready to cast the first stone, the justice system is impartial. The justice system is built so that citizens are more likely to receive a fair verdict. Each accused individual has the right to prepare a vigorous criminal defense or, if they so desire, may choose to negotiate a plea deal in order to receive a more favorable outcome.
