Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol while there is a child in the vehicle can bring about severe consequences if a conviction is obtained. A South Carolina woman is facing a drunk driving charge after a single-vehicle crash in Conway on a recent Thursday morning. Troopers reported that there was a juvenile in the car with her at the time of the accident.
According to an accident report, South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene of the crash shortly after 7 a.m. The markings on and next to the roadway indicated a gradual departure from the roadway until the collision with a pole. Law enforcement authorities believe this contradicts the driver’s claim that she swerved to avoid a deer.
Troopers also claim to have noticed lethargy and slurred speech when they questioned the driver, leading them to suspect impairment. However, she apparently refused a Breathalyzer test. Further, it is claimed that she also refused to submit to a blood test or provide a urine sample. Along with a DUI charge, she is now also facing a count of child endangerment.
