High school coach facing DUI charges in South Carolina

A conviction for driving under the influence can have disastrous consequences. It can affect employment, one's reputation in the community and family relationships. A 50-year-old man in South Carolina may be facing these issues after he was recently arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Reportedly, the man was driving a school bus east in the westbound lane of traffic without the use of headlights. Police initiated a traffic stop and took him into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, alleging his BAC was elevated at the time. Apparently, the accused man is a high school coach and not employed as a bus driver. There were around 15 students and three adults on the bus at the time, though no accidents or injuries were reported.

A conviction of this nature can be devastating. In this case, it could cause the man to lose his position as a high school coach, and he may have trouble finding employment with other school systems as a result. When facing similar circumstances, many people naturally seek to protect their employment, but the process can be challenging.

By seeking legal advice as soon as possible, a strategy can be formed to contest any DUI charges. A strong defense may assist in getting any formal charges reduced or, in some cases, dropped entirely. When facing a similar situation, those individuals affected in South Carolina typically retain the services of an experienced defense attorney to evaluate the situation and offer ongoing advice and support throughout the court proceedings.
