3 handed drug charges after a bust

It has been reported that three South Carolina residents were taken into police custody in August on drug offenses. The drug bust occurred following an investigation and the execution of a search warrant at a Goose Creek residence.

During the search, authorities reportedly discovered about 11.1 grams of a substance that was determined to be methamphetamine. They also allegedly found four Suboxone pills, drug packaging materials and other drug-related paraphernalia.

The three accused individuals were identified as a 23-year-old North Charleston man, a 28-year-old Summerville woman and a 33-year-old Goose Creek man. The 23-year-old was charged with possession and was given a $20,000 security bond. He had been previously taken into custody for intent too distribute methamphetamine in late June. The 28-year-old was facing charges for trafficking methamphetamine but was not given a bond for the charge. Finally, the 33-year-old was charged with distribution of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance and trafficking methamphetamine. He was given a $25,000 bond on the possession charge only.

Although the state of South Carolina aggressively prosecutes allegations of drug possession and drug distribution, there are ways a criminal law attorney could challenge the charges. For example, the attorney may investigate whether the search of the home or vehicle was legal and whether or not the officers had the authority to begin an investigation. If there is evidence that the defendant's constitutional rights were violated during the incident, the charges could potentially be either reduced or dismissed altogether. Otherwise, the attorney may determine if the defendant is eligible to apply for a pre-trial intervention program.
