Man dies in stabbing incident

According to authorities, a 48-year-old man was taken into custody on Aug. 31 for allegedly being involved in a fatal stabbing that took place in South Carolina. Earlier in the day, a 33-year-old man was found dead just after 6 a.m. at the home of the man who was taken into custody.

The Spartanburg County coroner said that the victim had been stabbed multiple times. Officials say that the man who was taken into custody claimed that the victim had been assaulting a woman. However, authorities say that a statement given by the woman and other evidence at the scene of the incident did not match the man's version of events. An investigation into the matter is still ongoing.

If a person is charged with a violent crime, they could face serious penalties if convicted. It may be possible to spend time in prison with or without the possibility of parole. In some cases, an individual convicted of a violent crime may be given a suspended sentence or put on probation either in addition to or lieu of jail time. The facts of the case may determine the exact sentence a defendant may receive.

An attorney may be able to help a client avoid a conviction altogether or negotiate a plea deal. A plea deal may be granted in exchange for a guilty plea on a lesser charge, and that may afford a defendant the opportunity to avoid prison time or other penalties. Legal counsel may attempt to cast doubt upon physical evidence, police conduct or witness testimony in an effort to earn an acquittal for a defendant. A case may also be thrown out before a trial begins.
