McConnells woman accused of using meth around children

For more than a decade now, methamphetamine has been the scourge of many states across the country. Although progress has been made in restricting the materials needed to make this highly addictive, physically degrading drug, methamphetamine use continues to warp innocent people into shells of their former selves.

A woman from McConnells, in York County, South Carolina, seems to be an example of someone who has suffered greatly due to her dependence on methamphetamine. She was jailed recently after authorities came to believe that she exposed her two children to methamphetamine.

The 26-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday by York's County's multi-jurisdictional drug enforcement unit. Authorities may have been tipped off to the woman's alleged methamphetamine use in front of her children by her mother. She remains in York County Detention Center in lieu of a $20,000 bond.

She had been under investigation for about two months after authorities came to believe that the woman and the father of her children were making and using methamphetamine around children. The father of the children has been in jail since May 23. He is facing 16 charges, including drug charges, in connection with a police raid on an inactive meth lab.

The woman now faces two charges of unlawful neglect of a child. Other charges may be filed in the near future.

We do not mean to excuse any behavior that endangers children. However, we know from our work with those accused of drug crimes that drug use often has a way of changing people for the worse.
