South Carolina suspected drug dealer taken into custody

A traffic stop just before 5 p.m. on Aug. 13 led police to a drug bust on Cedar Grove Lane in Rock Hill. A 19-year-old man had been stopped by police on Ebenezer Road after receiving a tip from the U.S. Postal Inspector's Office that the man had received two pounds of marijuana. The man allegedly sold marijuana to police in the past and was suspected of being a dealer.

Police later searched his home and found $8,000 worth of marijuana, scales and hash oil being cooked. Police also say that a 16-year-old girl was getting a tattoo and had been given marijuana before the tattooing began. Also confiscated from the home was a .380 semi-automatic pistol and tattooing equipment. The man was taken into custody and charged with possessing and distributing marijuana as well as having and selling drugs near a school.

A 20-year-old who also lived at the home was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, tattooing a minor and possession of a stolen pistol in addition to drug charges. An 18-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman who were in the house when police arrived were also taken into custody on undisclosed drug charges.

Those who are facing drug charges may be sentenced to jail time, fined or put on probation in addition to any other penalties levied. Employers may be made aware of the conviction, which could make it harder to secure or retain employment. Criminal defense lawyers may be able to cast doubt on the case against a defendant or have evidence suppressed by arguing that it was obtained illegally or under duress. This may make it possible to negotiate a plea deal or have charges dropped entirely.
