Parents fleeing with children arrested on drug charges

South Carolina police recently arrested two people who had allegedly fled with their three children after a protection order was issued in another state. When the parents were located, police reportedly found them in possession of drugs. They are now facing drug charges, and the children were placed in the custody of the Department of Social Services.

The Rock Hill police reportedly received information from another state about the three missing children that were suspected to have been taken by their parents in a white van and thought to be headed for South Carolina. An officer had noticed a white van in the parking lot of a medical center in Rock Hill moments before he received orders to be on the lookout for the vehicle and the children. It was later determined that the reason for their presence at the medical center was the wife's pregnancy.

The vehicle was then pulled off the road, and officers found the children who were not wearing shoes or pants. The parents, ages 49 and 34, were detained, and, upon searching the vehicle for the children's clothes, police officers reportedly found marijuana and heroin, along with $3,000 in cash. The couple was charged with drug possession, and both are being held on bonds of $5,652 each.

Drug charges in South Carolina can have severe consequences if they result in convictions, so retaining the services of an experienced criminal defense attorney might be the first logical step to take. Any individual who is accused of drug crimes has the right to fair and impartial treatment during the legal proceedings. An accused individual will remain innocent until the prosecution has proved guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
