Being convicted of driving under the influence can have serious ramifications, especially if an accident occurs in which a life is taken. A conviction this serious can have a major impact on a person’s life. In a recent car accident in South Carolina, a man has been accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as leaving the scene of an accident.

According to police, the South Carolina man was driving a pickup truck when he crossed into oncoming traffic, resulting in a head-on collision. The driver of the other vehicle died at the scene. The man driving the truck had two passengers with him at the time of the crash. Both were injured and taken to the hospital. The driver sustained only minor injuries and allegedly fled the scene before police arrived.

The 27-year-old driver of the truck is currently being held at a detention center. According to police, he is facing felony charges of DUI resulting in death, leaving the scene of an accident, and two charges of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury. The accident in question is currently under investigation by the highway patrol.

Charges of this nature can be severe. If convicted, a person could be facing a long jail sentence, thus having a major affect on his or her life. Individuals accused of driving under the influence in South Carolina may find it helpful to have a criminal defense attorney examine the evidence against them. An attorney who is experienced in defending DUI charges can advise them on how to combat the charges and obtain the best outcomes for their situations.
