Those accused of driving under the influence could face criminal charges. The formal accusations can be extensive, especially if an accident occurs. It makes good sense to seek legal counsel when facing a similar circumstance for advice on defending against the charges. This may be the case for a man who was recently arrested and accused of DUI after a recent accident in South Carolina.

The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m., when a car crashed into the side of a school bus that was stopped in traffic. The man driving the car allegedly left the scene of the accident on foot. He has since been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. One student on the bus reported a minor injury, but apparently no one else was hurt. There were six students riding on the bus at the time of the crash.

The man is now facing charges for hit-and-run and driving under the influence of alcohol. Successful convictions of this nature are often detrimental to a person’s future, in some cases including time behind bars. Other areas of life may also be affected, such as employment or reputation in one’s community.

Defending against a DUI charge can be challenging and even intimidating. By seeking legal counsel early on in the process, a defense strategy can be formed to combat the charges, which may assist in getting them reduced or even dropped entirely. When facing a similar situation, people in South Carolina often speak with an experienced criminal law attorney for advice on how to achieve the best overall outcome given their current situation.
