Woman faces multiple charges from shooting incident

Authorities in Seneca took a 32-year-old woman into custody following a shooting that happened at about 2 a.m on Feb. 3. The incident took place on the 123 Bypass at a Marathon gas station. One of the victims said that the woman walked up to her car, tapped the glass with a gun and started shooting as the car was traveling in reverse

Another woman said that she was outside and ran away from the gunfire. Authorities say that six .380 caliber shell casings were found at the scene. Before the shooting, the victims allegedly got into an argument with the shooter at a nearby bar. The woman who was taken into custody said that she was too drunk to remember what had happened. She is facing charges of attempted murder as well as malicious injury to personal property. Furthermore, she was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and discharging a firearm into a vehicle.

Individuals who are facing accusations of attempted murder or other violent crimes may face serious consequences if convicted. Penalties could range from prison time to probation. However, an attorney could create a defense against such a charge.

For instance, legal counsel could assert that the crime was committed in self-defense. Another defense may be to claim that the defendant didn't have the mental capacity to know that a given action was wrong or could lead to harm. This might result in a plea bargain with reduced charges. In some cases, an alleged offender could even be acquitted of wrongdoing.
