Domestic violence charges are difficult to disprove

Violent crimes of any sort are vigorously investigated and prosecuted in South Carolina, and domestic violence charges are no exception. In fact, some contend an allegation of domestic violence garners more attention from law enforcement than other crimes because standard procedure typically involves an on the spot arrest. While the investigating officers look to the totality of the circumstances observed at the scene, often they primarily rely on an allegation made by the alleged victim as to what transpired. The allegation may not be entirely true.

The suspects, a married couple from Bethune, have not yet had a bail hearing while authorities detain them in the Kershaw County Detention Center. The arrests came after a prolonged investigation that began on March 8, 2017 when police located the victim's body in Bishopville.

Man allegedly killed by poisoned water

A 64-year-old man was found dead in his South Carolina home on July 21. His wife confessed to killing him after an autopsy revealed that he had elevated levels of a substance called tetrahydrozoline in his system. The 52-year-old woman admitted that she had put eye drops in his water for several days prior to his passing. While there was no clear motive for the killing, his family issued a statement denying that he was unfaithful to his wife.

South Carolina authorities plan to extradite 2 murder suspects

Man charged with girlfriend's death

South Carolina authorities took a 25-year-old man into custody for allegedly killing his girlfriend. The man called police saying that he had woken up to find his girlfriend dead. He also told a dispatcher that there was blood everywhere at the scene and that he wanted to turn himself in. Police eventually found the man on Highway 9 and Pleasantdale Road, and at that time, he told officers that he didn't know what had happened.
