Man faces drug charges following police raid

default-post1

A South Carolina man is facing drug charges after the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office raided his home on April 12. The 47-year-old man was taken into custody after allegedly attempting to run away from his Ridgeland home on Orange Grove Road after the sheriffs appeared with a search warrant. Several police agencies were involved in the raid, including the Bluffton Police Department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, in addition to the sheriff’s deputies.

The police claim that the search warrant for the home in the Mitchellville area was issued after they received several complaints about drug sales and activity taking place in the home. They also claim that sheriff’s deputies made several undercover drug purchases at the home. Officials say that during the raid, they found 43.5 grams of crack cocaine, 36.4 grams of marijuana, a handgun, drug paraphernalia and 39.5 hydromorphone pain pills. Scales and packaging for drugs were also allegedly found in the home.

The man is facing a series of drug charges, including possession with intent to distribute a Schedule II substance, trafficking in crack cocaine and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. He is also charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

People who are facing drug charges in South Carolina may be dealing with the potential for serious consequences, including jail or prison time, costly fines and a felony criminal record that can interfere with housing, employment and other opportunities. When people are accused of drug crimes, it can be critical to present a defense. A criminal defense attorney may help people accused of drug offenses to mount a defense in court and before trial. This might include challenging police behavior or violations of civil rights and fighting back against illegitimate or unlawful searches.
