Rapper DMX could face drug charges in South Carolina

Rapper Earl “DMX” Simmons was arrested in Greer, South Carolina, during a routine traffic stop. Mr. Simmons was the passenger in a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by his assistant that was stopped for an alleged illegal lane change. Police claim to have seen marijuana in the passenger side door. As a result, the rapper could end up facing drug charges.

When Police made the stop, they recognized Mr. Simmons from an outstanding warrant for his arrest regarding a prior drunk driving charge out of Greenville, South Carolina. Presumably, it was at that time that the police initiated their search of the vehicle. Along with what was found in the passenger’s side door, three bags of marijuana were also said to have been found under the driver’s seat.

When asked about the marijuana, Mr. Simmons denied that it was his. Police go on to claim that DMX responded to them aggressively and had a strong odor of alcohol on him. Since the rapper was a passenger in the vehicle, the fact that he had been drinking should not be an issue in this case.

It is not known whether the arrest was for the outstanding warrant or for drug charges related to this traffic stop. Police acknowledge that no drugs were actually found on Mr. Simmon’s person or any of the other occupants of the vehicle. Therefore, it may not be possible for authorities to prove any wrongdoing on the part of Mr. Simmons as he says he was not in possession of any drugs. It will be up to the prosecution to prove otherwise.
