Drunk driving charges filed after deadly South Carolina crash

default-post1

After a deadly crash on U.S. 321 in the early morning hours of a recent Friday morning, a South Carolina man was arrested and booked into jail. He is facing charges of felony drunk driving causing the death of another person. Troopers said the accident occurred in the vicinity of the Lexington Industrial Park.

An accident report indicates that the 21-year-old driver was heading in the wrong direction on U.S. 321 when he smashed into another car. The impact of the crash caused fatal injuries to the 44-year-old driver of the other car, and her death was pronounced at the accident scene. The wrong-way driver reportedly suffered only minor injuries, and he was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

After his release from the hospital, the driver was reportedly arrested and booked into the county jail where he was given a $100,000 bond. There is no indication of the procedures followed when the driver’s blood alcohol content was determined. This and other important factors will have to be examined by the accused man’s legal counsel.

A felony drunk driving charge can have devastating consequences, even if a conviction is not obtained. As this case moves forward, the accused driver will likely explore the available defense options under the laws of South Carolina. Fortunately, the judicial system allows any accused driver the opportunity to seek legal counsel. With the guidance and support of an experienced DUI defense attorney, the evidence presented by the prosecution at trial can be challenged. Without proof of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, no conviction is possible.
