Infant dies, South Carolina man faces drunk driving charges

It is never a good idea to drive while under the influence of alcohol. However, people are only human and can make mistakes. Unfortunately, many times these mistakes can result in devastating consequences, which include the death of victims. This seems to be what had happened in a recent alleged drunk driving incident in South Carolina which resulted in the death of a young child.

The alleged drunk driver, a 24-year-old man, was traveling west when he ended up driving his vehicle off the side of the road. His 2007 Mitsubishi smashed into several trees after leaving the roadway. The driver had one passenger, his girlfriend's 15-month-old son, who died as a result of the crash.

The child and the driver were both immediately transported to a local medical facility. Despite efforts by the medical staff, the child was unfortunately pronounced dead at approximately 11:36 p.m. that same evening in mid-June. The mother had left her child with her boyfriend while she was working at the time of the incident. Reportedly, the driver attempted to flee the hospital shortly after arrival.

The driver now faces charges of drunk driving, possession of marijuana and child endangerment as a result of the fatal accident in South Carolina. Despite the severity of the results of the incident, the accused man has a right to defend himself in the court of law. The potential consequences a conviction could bring mandate that the accused man focus his attention on the specifics of the allegations as he seeks to protect his legal rights while fighting to achieve a favorable result.
